A vibracore is used as an efficient method of core sampling, often used to collect samples of underwater sediments or wetland soils. The unit is sealed, allowing for shallow water submersion and sample collection making it one of the best solutions for the conditions found in coastal areas, wetlands, and lakes.
The unit works by applying vibrations to the sampling tube, which in turn causes a thin layer of material to move along the inner and outer sample tube walls. The vibration reduces friction between the sampling tube and the sediment, allowing for deeper sediment penetration.
Core samples are retained using a one-way core catcher, with diaphragm vacuum pumps available to further increase sample retention by creating a vacuum of up to 80%.
Units can be powered by one of Melvelle’s petrol or diesel power packs. Alternatively, the unit can also be attached to and powered from a drill rig.
The vibracore and tripod are quick to assemble/disassemble and easily man portable, making it a great choice for hard to access locations or areas where many samples are required.
